Daedalus (ダイダロス, daidarosu?) is the creator of Ikaros, Nymph, the Harpies, Astraea, and Oregano (probably), all the 1st generation Angeloids. She frequently appears in Tomoki's dreams as a sort of "lover", but she flies away, leaving Tomoki crying when he wakes up. She comes to his dreams to ask him to help save her. Throughout the series, Daedalus sends each of her 'daughters' down to Sorami City with Tomoki, claiming that they have been 'captured' by the sky' in hopes that the first generation Angeloids can be freed. Little information is given on her, as well as her relation with Tomoki.

Her name originates from the Greek mythological character Daedalus, the father of Icarus.

She frequently works with Sugata when he visits Synapse. It is revealed in the final chapter that she is actually the "real"  Sohara in Synapse. The Sohara we see throughout the series is clone of herself that she created so that Tomoki won't forget her.

History[]

Daedalus and all other inhabitants of Synapse started out just like humans did on Earth, by evolving and either died or grew wings. The inhabitants of Synapse have lived for eons. They developed many high-tech machinery and other scientific inventions that appears to be magical to modern humans. After living for eons, Daedalus and the rest of the inhabitants began to get bored and unhappy. Daedalus, in an attempt to solve this problem, created the Rule, which had the ability to grant all the inhabitants wishes. After having all their wishes granted, the inhabitants of Synapse were happy for a while, but soon after all their wishes and dreams had come true, they began to face a collective existential crisis. Eventually, the inhabitants began to commit suicide. Over time, the population of synapse decreased from millions to only three thousand. In an attempt to solve this problem, Daedalus and the rest of Synapse tried to create a new world with the Rule, so they recreated the universe. How they did this is not explained in the anime. (In the last chapters of the manga, it is explained how they recreated the universe. Firstly, Synapse ceases to exist, and after everything, be it the people, animals, plants, and even the sky will be destroyed.)

This didn't change anything, so they created the human species and Daedalus presumably created the first generation of Angeloids alongside Minos. Daedalus and the rest of Synapse created the humans and the Angeloid for their amusement, if only for an hour. They began to watch the humans, and after a while of watching them, Daedalus and the rest of the inhabitants of Synapse began to become jealous of the humans. The humans had what they coveted so much: the ability to dream. To acquire what they wished for the most, Daedalus along with the rest of Synapse, created a dome with machines to put themselves in a dream-like state.  After they completed their objective, Daedalus along with most of Synapse went into the dome to be put into a new dream life where they lived among the humans on Earth by projecting their consciousness into artificial humans.

Daedalus began her dream life on Earth as a young girl named Sohara, specifically the Sohara that was Tomoki's childhood friend but died young from a malady. After Daedalus died in her dream life, she was erased from the memories of the humans on Earth (including Tomoki). But like the rest of the Synapse inhabitants who die in their dream lives, she wanted to go back to her dream. Daedalus knew she couldn't put Tomoki through the same dream again, so she created a clone of her former dream self (Sohara). In an attempt to solve the Synapse's resident's problem of not being happy, Daedalus later sends the angeloid Ikaros down to Earth to get help from Tomoki.

Personality[]

Daedalus is a calm and caring angel. She deeply cares for all the angeloids she created as she considers them her "daughters" and the rest of Synapse. She is exceptionally intelligent and is Synapse's top scientist and creator of many of its most powerful inventions, like the Rule. She despises cruel and manipulative people like Minos.

Not much about Daedalus's personality is known because she mostly communes with Tomoki in his dreams, warning him of any potential danger the angeloids and him could face.

Like the other inhabitants of Synapse, she was inside a dream and desired to go back once she "awoke".

Appearance[]

Tomoki&Daedalus

Daedalus has long blue hair and is of the same height as Sohara. She has white wings and wears a long white necklace. Otherwise, (minus her breast size) her physical appearance is the same as Sohara's. She is always seen bare foot. Presumably due to her weak health, she always sits on a cloud-like machine when traveling.

Plot[]

Sora no Otoshimono - 06 - Large 29

Tomoki finally finds Daedalus.

Her first appearance is in Tomoki's dreams, it comes in a green field trying to wake him up and asking him to take care of her daughters. Throughout this arc, she only appears in Tomoki's dreams, without actually performing the anime. The Angeloids also have memories of her in the form of warnings.

Forte Arc[]

She still appears in the dreams of Tomoki, asking him to be vigilant of the "Angel", but also take care of her. Soon after the school festival, she appears looking Tomoki and his friends interacting with their Angeloids then her hideout is discovered and attacked by Minos and Harpies, there he reveals that Daedalus accessed memories of Tomoki and freed the Queen Uranus of her prison. Also, he reveals that he managed to create the next generation of Angeloids, stronger than she had created, and would use it to attack the "Downers". Days after Sugata asks Nymph to help on trips to Synapse, however, due to some events, Nymph is taken away from the Dive Game machine, so the count goes from combined and Sugata remains in Synapse at the mercy of the Harpies, but subtly, Daedalus saves him before they kill him.

Hiyori Kazane Arc[]

She is outraged after Minos converts Hyori into an angeloid. Minos responds that Hyori has forsaken herself as an Angel.

Melan Arc[]

She reveals that the installed the Pandora system into the first generation angeloid to help them grow. This gives Ikaros the power to overwhelm the Melan angeloids.

Final Arc[]

Her true identity is finally revealed. She was a childhood friend of Tomoki.

Abilities and Weapons[]

Daedalus has never shown any powerful abilities or weapons so it is unknown if she has any. Her only known ability is her extremely high level of intelligence even by Synapse's standard and is one of their greatest scientist, rivaled only by Minos. She appears to have certain powers in The Synapse since she made the Angeloids and was able to save Sugata when he was about to get captured by the harpies. She also has deadly karate chop just as Sohara, her clone. She appears to be able to create portals.

Her most notable ability in the series is to visit Tomoki in his dreams.

Relationships[]

  • Master of Synapse/Minos - Enemy and former research partner. They created the first generation Angeloids together.
  • Tomoki - They were friends when she was "dreaming". In the beginning of the anime, it is stated that they love each other deeply. In the final chapters, she appears to still love Tomoki.

She considers the Angeloids she created to be her daughters.

Trivia[]

  • She didn't reveal her real identity to anyone until the end of the series.
  • She hardly ever walks or stands in the entire series and travels in a floating vehicle.
  • In the manga, Daedalus has four wings instead of the usual two (in the anime she has two, like everyone else). She is the only known resident of Synapse to have more than two wings, excluding the Angeloids. The significance of this is never made clear.
